India to Lead Semiconductor Boom Soon: Canon India CEO
As per the information shared by Canon India’s CEO, Manabu Yamazaki, the country is heading towards the generation of the semiconductor industry in the global sector. At a recent tech summit, Yamazaki came out very strongly regarding the future of India to ride on the increasing global demand for semiconductors, highlighting that the country enjoys lucrative policies, abundant talent, and increasing investment in this critical sector.
Strategic Positioning
Since the Indian government began introducing new policies, such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, in the semiconductor sector, the country has emerged as an attractive region for technology businesses. There are strong indications that the ecosystem is already on the cards, with some companies such as Vedanta, Foxconn, and ISMC announcing mega investments for setting up chip manufacturing. Yamazaki stressed that India’s ambition of becoming self-reliant in semiconductors, together with the country’s capabilities to lure foreign investors, make it among the leaders of the race.
Talent and Innovation
Another is the availability of a large pool of talent in engineering graduates, given the country’s demographic dividend. Yamazaki pointed out that Indian engineers have been employed in international technology organisations as key workers for many years, and now they are being used for domestic chip development. The CEO also applauded India’s increasing focus on R&D, which is important in the development of semiconductors.
Challenges and Opportunities
However, it is important to note that there are still some issues that have to be overcome. The semiconductor business requires large capital investment and an effective supply chain management system. Yamazaki also demanded that the government should support the venture and build more infrastructure despite the challenges expressed above. But he was optimistic that since India is very active about it, these concerns would be dealt with adequately.
Global Implications
India has the potential to be a game changer in this area currently and may challenge the traditional powerhouses of the industry, namely Taiwan and China. Given the current geopolitical tension in the technology space, it allows Semiconductors India to offer a new source of supply chain to the global markets.
But as the global focal point is shifting towards a more diversified chip source, Yamazaki’s quote is evidence of India being prepared to take up the mantle of this semiconductor supremacy.
